So we're driving from Edmonton to Calgary right now. It's dusty. And hot. I heard somewhere that it's going to be 25 degrees today. A positive change from Vancouver, where it was raining "cats and dogs" I believe the saying goes. Although all that rain sure did make for some pretty green leaves and grass.
We played in Victoria at the Curling Club on Tuesday. I think every small band has heard horror stories about what crowds will yell or do to them when they're opening for a bigger act, so we were sufficiently prepared for pretty much anything. We walked out on stage to scattered cheering and applause and began. By the end of the first song the crowd had pushed up around the stage and were cheering with what I would call a vigour. The rest of the night rolled along similarly, and we walked off the stage to resounding applause. Then we got to watch CAKE, and they killed.
We hopped on a ferry on the morning of Wednesday and we sailed to Vancouver for show number two at the Vogue Theatre. This building had a different feel than the Curling Club in Victoria, a wide open cement-floored arena. The Vogue is a grand old theatre with a sweet smack of decay that actually adds to the overall cool of the place. The gum stuck to the aisle carpeting has a story to tell. It won't tell, but it has a story. Probably one that involves love, lust, intrigue, deceipt... murder. So chew on that. But I digress. We opened the show at 8PM, to an estimated one third full theatre. We played hard and the crowd obliged us with their own kind of percussion, some singing and a healthy does of cheering. We ended the show and the now full theatre stood for us. It was pretty neat. Then we got to watch CAKE, and they killed.
So as I was saying, we're on the way to Calgary at the moment, to play the third of our four shows on this tour. Tomorrow we'll be coming back this way to open the final night at the Edmonton Events Centre, then the dreaded all-day flight back to PEI Saturday morning. The BC crowds have been good to us, and we're hoping for similar results from the Alberta folk. I can't imagine they'll disapoint.
Stay neat,
Rob

Yesterday, mere hours after playing for a phenomenal crowd at the Seahorse, we got on a plane in Halifax and flew to the booming metropolis of Vancouver, rented a van and hopped a ferry to the city where I now type; the always lovely Victoria, British Columbia. We're here to play a show with our future best buds, CAKE.
A few days ago we received a call from CAKE's tour manager saying we had been chosen to open for them on the Canadian leg of their tour. Naturally, we jumped at the opportunity. At 8:00PM Pacific Standard Time tonight, we will begin the first of four 45 minute sets; number one at the Curling Club here in Victoria, number two at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, number three at the MacEwan Student Centre University in Calgary and number four at the Edmonton Events Centre in wait... you guessed it: Edmonton.
In the meantime we plan on sleeping a lot, making up lost time due to a bizarre early morning trip to an auction in Fredericton, where we added a new vehicle to our lineup (her name is Enterprise). There's a good chance you'll be seeing a small rockumentary, tentatively titled "Double Toasted", chronicling the experience, thanks to our good friend Paul Brothers, of Much Music's Going Coastal fame. So while we're out here, we hope to see some old friends, make some new ones and play a quartet of pretty darn exciting shows. I also hope to get a haircut. Any suggestions as to where, please email rob@paperlionsmusic.com.
Stay neat,
Rob
April 10, 2008 - Recording and New Dates
We're down in the lovely New York enjoying the fine spring weather and recording some new material. Our goal for the week is to complete three songs, but we may end up with four. We are all really excited about these brand new songs and we may be able to post one or more of them online by early next week if all goes well.
While we are down here, we are playing a show at Pianos in New York City on Monday April 14th. Our show starts at 9pm sharp, so don't arrive late or you might miss it.
We just posted four other shows in Charlottetown, Halifax, Fredericton, and Spruce Grove (north of Edmonton), and we will be adding more in the coming weeks.
Ciao,
Dave

Hey guys, welcome to the new website.
News! We just got back from Toronto and showcasing at Canadian Music Week. We played two gigs at The El Mocambo and The Rivoli. The shows were great, thanks to everyone who came and all the other bands we played with. There were many highs frome the weekend, but I have to mention Halifax's I See Rowboats, they combatted major technical crap to give a great show, that I would pay to see again. The rest of the Ontario tour was a success as well. At The Bomber in Waterloo, we had one of our best shows in recent memory. Thanks to all the guys and gals who stayed after the opening act, which I'm fairly sure was everyone. You killed us.
So now we're home, we're writing new material and planning on heading to New York to record early this spring. Expect an EP sometime around summer '08. That's all for now, keep comin back. We'll be posting and posting and posting.
Stay neat.
Rob
